UNDERSTANDING THE GOSPEL

___

Find out more about what it means to follow Jesus simply by reading the points below.

GOD

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, everything He created was good.

God created man in His own image, with the intent that through man, glory would be brought to God.

PROBLEM

However, man rebelled against God.

The perfection that existed, and the unity between God and man was broken in Genesis 3:6.

As a result of this, there was now relational enmity between God and man.

At this point, mankind sinned, falling short of the glorious standard of God.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.Romans 3:23

The result of this was that there was now a fair consequence for man’s actions, including us today.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23

This is bad news,

BUT

GOOD NEWS

follows.

SOLUTION

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us

Romans 5:8

Jesus, and the work He accomplished on the cross, would now prove to be the solution to the world’s problem of sin.

What is it that we are to believe about the person of Jesus?

1. Jesus is fully God

2. Jesus is fully man

3. Jesus died

4. Jesus rose again from the grave

5. Jesus is Lord

RESPONSE

Our response to the person of Jesus, as the solution to our sinful selves should be marked by –

Repentance

Turning from our own, sinful lives, and turning to follow the person of Jesus as Lord of our lives

Faith

Trusting in Jesus’ ability to rescue us from sin, and more than that, asking Him to forgive us of our sins.

When we respond to Jesus in faith and with repentance, we are promised two things –

1. Forgiveness of sin

Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.

Acts 3:19

 2. Eternal Life

For God so loved the World that He gave His one and only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 10:9

PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, I confess today that I am sinner in need of saving.

Jesus I ask you to come in to my heart as the Lord of my life.

Today I want to turn away from my own desires, and live for you.

Thank you Jesus for dying on the cross for my sins so that I could be forgiven and saved.

Amen
