Africa Outreach

Africa Outreach is a missionary organisation founded and staffed by Franz and Brenda Bense, who are members of KBC, currently based in White River. Their work is centered on equipping churches with biblical training material known as 'chronological teaching'. AO is the major beneficiary from KBC's missions budget.

Training trips conducted in the past year have been to:
  • India (Franz and Brenda);
  • Lubumbashi in the DRC (Franz);
  • Egypt (Franz and his son, Christiaan);

The recent trip to Egypt required translation of the teaching material into Arabic, which has opened up the possibility of visits to Libya, Jordan and Iraq over the course of the next 18 months.

The mission to Egypt completed Africa Outreach's initial vision of 'crossing' Africa from the Cape to Cairo and from Senegal to Ethiopia.

OMS have invited Africa Outreach to conduct courses in Sudan, Tanzania, Kenya, Mali and Niger before the end of this year. In all of these cases, OMS covers subsistence expenses in the various countries and the cost of training material. Africa Outreach has to raise the finances to cover travel costs, which are generally in the region of R5,000 - R8,000 per trip.

As a result of an independent enquiry from Europe, Franz expects to conduct a training course at a private school in Brussels in Sep / Oct .

OMS have recently purchased 1,000 training books from AO. Two new translations have also just been completed into the Lomwe and Macua languages, which are spoken in northern Mozambique.

Brenda is involved in various forms of ministry in the White River area, principally at Africa School of Missions (ASM), King's School and an old age home.

Megan, Franz & Brenda's youngest child, is in her last year of school in White River. She has applied to Stellenbosch and Pretoria universities to study sports science next year. With the family's schooling completed, Franz and Brenda will be relocating to Kloof at the end of this year and are close to finalising the sale of their house in White River. Their roles in Africa Outreach will remain unchanged. They may also be able to assist us in local missions activities.

The Bense family visited KBC during September and again at Easter, when they updated the church on their work.

Siyazama Group

This is a sewing group outreach, co-ordinated by Elmarie Erasmus. The group meets every second Thursday at KBC. In this forum Elmarie and a number of KBC ladies provide sewing instruction and spiritual input to African ladies.

The group is functioning well with an average attendance of 10 members and full complement of 14. The ladies shared some of their Siyazama experiences at a KBC Service in December.

Molweni Soccer Ministry

We conducted a soccer clinic in Sep in conjunction with Ambassadors in Sport. The clinic was well received by about 20 children. They then joined us in the Molweni church service, where a KBC worship team ministered to them.

Some roof sheets were blown off the Molweni church building early in September. KBC provided replacement sheets and the Molweni folk performed the roof repairs.

Approximately 60 children from the Molweni Sunday school and from Tholulwazi school attended a Christmas party at KBC in December. Volunteers from KBC transported the children to and from Kloof. They participated in our Sunday Service and received a Nando's meal and a gift afterwards.

The Molweni Sunday School is being well run by Nomzamo, although she has few resources at her disposal. We have now acquired some good teaching material and are looking for a volunteer who can guide Nomzamo in the application of the course.

Pastor Brian preached at Molweni on Sunday 2nd May and was very well received by a good turnout of the Molweni congregation.

We supported Molweni Baptist Church in screening all 3 of Bafana Bafana's World Cup matches in the local community hall. This initiative was much appreciated by the local community and the attendance was between 200 - 300 people on each occasion.

Zimbabwe Pensioner Support

The situation in Zimbabwe has become very dire. There are many people who don’t even have access to the basics, like food. To this end, theZimbabwe Pensioner Support Fund (ZPSF) was established in 2002 to supply pensioners with food hampers, medicine, walking aids, wheel chairs and good used clothing. These are delivered directly to the pensioners so there is no middleman.

In order to assist this very worthwhile organisation Kloof Baptist Church became involved in helping collect food items which make up the food hampers. More information is found here.

Campus Crusade

Agape is engaged in workplace, community and student ministry and the vision is to build spiritual movements so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus and the strategy is to WIN people to Christ, BUILD individuals up in their faith, and SEND them out to make Disciples of Christ. We want to see Jesus known on campus through community, where the students have been completely transformed by grace.
