The Wednesday Morning Bible Study

"Jonah - Navigating a Life Interrupted" by Priscilla Shirer

What do we do when God interrupts our lives? Many times, like Jonah, we run! In this 7-session Bible study, Priscilla redefines interruption and shows that interruption is actually God's invitation to do something beyond our wildest dreams. When Jonah was willing to allow God to interrupt his life, the result was revival in an entire city

Crisis Care at KBC

Together with our pastors, a team of ladies endeavour to help support those going through crises by prayer, visitation, counsel and practical support e.g. meals, helping with transport etc.

Monthly groceries are collected from KBC members and distributed to families in need at KBC as well as in the community as a form of outreach. Periodically grocery parcels are sent to pensioners in Zimbabwe.

Cooked meals are collected regularly for our freezer and distributed to families dealing with illness or loss.

Realising the number of divorces and re-marriage in the community we are currently running an 8 week DVD course called "The Smart Step Family".

Prayer

One of the highlights of the week is our intercessory prayer meeting. For the past four years, a group of between 5 and 8 of us have been meeting each week, to pray for an hour as the Lord leads.

Our main purpose is to pray for KBC but as we endeavour to be led by the Spirit we often pray for our country or for individual needs. We have witnessed many wonderful answers to these prayers!

We really desire that our numbers would increase and we also welcome those who would themselves desire prayer and ministry. We always leave feeling refreshed, uplifted and experiencing the peace of God.

The Intercessory Prayer Chain has been the means of communicating prayer needs in the congregation for a number of years. However, the way in which this operates was changed slightly in October last year as there was sometimes a breakdown in the "chain" when prayer requests were passed on telephonically.

This is now being done via an SMS. Anyone in crisis, needing prayer, can either phone or sms Pam van Niekerk with the request. Pam, in turn, will sms Patsy who then sends a bulk sms to all persons on the Prayer Chain. This is working very well and is a vital part of the KBC prayer ministry

Please take advantage of this ministry, being fully assured that all requests are kept in the strictest of confidence.

Young Mom's

This year has seen the Moms group grow to 8 fairly regular attendees (all thanks and glory to God). The moms attending have children of a wide age range, the youngest being 5 months old up to 4 years old (during the holidays). The group has proven to be a real support for the sometimes stressed and lonely stay-at-home moms who have formed friendships and have had a place to voice their frustrations and triumphs.

Moms group has continued to meet regularly throughout the long World Cup holidays, with hosting moms providing some activities for the children.

During term time we meet at the Church every second week to watch Christian-focused DVDs. However, we usually only have 3 or 4 moms attending. This is an area where prayer is needed.

Moms group continues to be an important outreach for KBC.

Selah

On the third Wednesday of each month several ladies of our KBC family meet at the church for a time of fellowship and Bible Study.

Since the last AGM Report we have finished the Bible Study on the 23rd Psalm from the shepherd's point of view by making bracelets with the verses of this Psalm in mind. We spent time remembering the great battle of Trafalgar and its admirable Admiral Nelson and learning how like ships we Christians are. At our Christmas Meeting, we found out the stories behind many of our lovely Carols and discovered how much we Christians can learn as we decorate our Christmas Trees. We went through a study on the Names of God and learnt so much more about our awesome God's character while doing so. In February - Valentine's month - we discovered so many Treasures of the Heart and during the Easter month were amazed to find how much Eggs, Bunnies and Chocolate can teach us to be better followers of our Lord. At the moment Kath Anderson is bringing a most enlightening study of the "Great I AM's".

We have had the pleasure of meeting with Kerryn, Brian and Jenny and Kath, getting to know them better as they have shared their testimonies with us, and this July meeting Paula is coming to share her experience in her fascinating Jewellery work.

To any lady who is looking to spend a time of great fun and fellowship and having the all important experience of learning more of God's Great Book I would highly recommend coming to join with us on the third Wednesday of the month at 9.30 a.m for Tea and the meeting at 10a.m.

Missions

Elmarie Erasmus and her team continue to teach the Siyazama Group (this means 'trying together') to sew fortnightly on a Thursday morning.   She is also doing a Bible study with the ladies, in Zulu, from material that Frans & Brenda have compiled.

Coffee Pot +

"Coffee Pot " is a meeting held for Seniors on the first Thursday morning of every month during school terms.

It is open to all with a wonderful tea, eats and time for a chat - all free of charge! A variety of entertainment and a short devotion is also provided at each meeting.

Some of our activities in 2010 have included:
- Shirley Meintjies and Peter Jordaan giving a wonderful presentation of Ballroom Dancing such as the Waltz, Tango, Jive and Rumba;
- Jenny Ward (actress and singer) with Joan at the piano presenting songs from 'The King and I' and community singing. The devotion was by Pastor BRIAN.
- On another occasion we were delighted to listen to Dave Arnold, flautist and entertainer who sang some songs with his guitar and then with audience participation;
- The Bessie Williams ladies choir is another favourite on our menu and we soon hope to have some dancers again this term;
- and also local school choirs and orchestras so do join us if you are able
.
We are blessed to have a faithful group of woman on our committee who organise the tea and the entertainment and many other wonderful folk who join us as hosts and hostesses at the tables on the day. It is a time of fellowship, caring and sharing where Jesus is Lord.
